Muhlenburg County, Kentucky

On January 23, 2023, a Phase I archaeological survey was conducted by consulting archaeologist Vincent Versluis of Waypoint, LLC for the proposed Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) bridge replacement project along KY 189 over Jarrels Creek in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The investigation encompassed approximately 4.2 acres within the defined Area of Potential Effects (APE) and was completed in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and applicable state and federal guidelines.

The undertaking involves replacement of the existing bridge structure carrying KY 189 over Jarrels Creek, a perennial stream, and includes associated roadway and infrastructure improvements. The survey was designed to identify and evaluate any cultural resources within the APE to assess potential effects on historic properties and support regulatory compliance with Section 106 consultation requirements.
